"Submarine"

As soon as we arrived in Michigan and began our exploration we knew that the beaches and lakes would be a huge part of our next three year adventure here. When Kylin and I told him regardless of our financial situation while raising our family- I wanted a boat. Although a canoe was not exactly the type of boat I had in mind...it is a start nonetheless. It may be a slow and gradual progression to our ski boat we hope to have later in life, but as for "Submarine" we are suited perfectly for the time being.
Why a canoe? Some friends of our have one and were talking about how fun it was to go out with the family. Kylin's eyes looked like a child's in a candy store as they were telling stories about their outings. Kylin had a Birthday, Father's day and Medical School graduation coming up, all in the same week- so I knew a canoe would be the perfect gift! The best part about it is that it is a gift that continually gives. Before he started his residency we were able to go to the lake nearly every day that weather permitted- and even some where the weather wasn't cooperating so well! Even with his busy schedule we manage to make it to the lake about once a week to take the canoe out, fish, swim and play in the sand. What better way to make lasting memories, spend quality time as a family and pass these lazy summer days by!

The name "submarine" was created by Koleson. His first time in the canoe he was terrified as we had just come back from our trip to Disneyland. we couldn't figure out why he kept panicking and telling us not to go under. Once we finished the first half of our canoe trip and began paddling back he reassured himself that it wasn't yellow so it won't go under "Right?" he asked. It was only then that I racked my brain and remembered the sweet Little Nemo Submarine ride at Disneyland that does in fact go under water. Once we cleared that issue- the kids favorite pastime quickly became riding in the canoe and dangling their fingers over the edge to see who can catch the biggest seaweed, spot the biggest fish, cast their rod the furthest and help us row the fastest! Now we have our own canoe tales to tell...
